Good afternoon and welcome back to kenbaxter.com! I am Ken Baxter of Las Vegas and today is Tuesday, February 11th, 2014. I recently had an exciting opportunity to attend one of the largest conventions in Las Vegas – the NAHB International Builders’ Show (IBS) at the Las Vegas Convention Center held from February 4-6, 2014. What a fun and exciting learning experience it was! With a passion for American made products, “Green” building practices, and in conjunction with my new home building company, Liberty Homes, this was the perfect event to learn all about the latest designs and technologies available to industry professionals like me. I am happy to share with you, dear readers, the many exciting details of this huge event!
Did you know that IBS is the nation’s largest annual residential housing construction trade event for manufacturers and suppliers of home construction products and services? Nearly 50% of attendees are home builders and another 25% are building material distributors or dealers. More importantly, many of the products and materials featured at the show are Made in the USA! Efforts to use American made goods in the construction trades are vital to the resurgence of the American economy. In fact, by spending just 5% more on American goods versus foreign made materials we, as a nation, can help create nearly 1 million new jobs for our citizens directly and another 1 million jobs indirectly. Our public charity, Made In America, has a website dedicated to educating consumers on the ways we can make positive changes in the manufacturing industry, for job creation, and for the American economy on the whole. As I was saying, the 2014 International Builders Show’s theme was “Expect More,” and that’s precisely what attendees got! Throughout the three day Show, building industry professionals eagerly stretched their days so they could get more out of their Show experience. In fact, this was the first time that IBS and the Kitchen & Bath Industry Show (KBIS) – two extraordinary events – were co-located in Las Vegas. With a combined 1,700 exhibitors covering more than 650,000 square feet of space, this show delivered an amazing experience for over 75,000 attendees from across the globe during the first annual “Design and Construction Week”!
Here are just a few of the highlights from this year’s show:
- General Stan McChrystal, a four-star general and the former commander of the U.S. and international forces in Afghanistan, headlined the Opening Ceremonies with a moving keynote address on Tuesday morning.
- It was standing room only as hundreds of attendees and exhibitors networked during the Official IBS House Party at the Hard Rock Café on the Vegas Strip.
- Thousands of building professionals attended more than 100 seminars on topics including: 50+ housing, sales and marketing, and high-performance building.
- The New American Home 2014 – NAHB’s “Show Home” – welcomed thousands of visitors to see its’ cutting-edge efficiency, technology, and sustainability.
- Closing out the Show, four-time Grammy winner Pat Benatar gave a special performance during Thursday evening’s IBS Spike Concert.
As supporters of the latest advances in green building practices, our public charity, Green Global noted that one of the most interesting offerings showcased by NAHB was the 2014 “New American Home.” This year’s home, built in the foothills of Henderson, offers 6,700 square feet of living space and is a one-of-a-kind green home! The home is expected to achieve Emerald status under the National Green Building Standard (NGBS) and anticipates certifications for Energy Star, EPA and Indoor airPLUS. The home incorporates cutting-edge features with the future in mind, yet integrates design elements that are relevant to how families live and function in homes today. This state-of-the-art home was impressive to everyone who toured it and provided innovative ideas and design element ideas that can be incorporated in homes across the country. Attendees were able to tour this home for free during the show!
Green Global is dedicated to bringing green initiatives and environmental change to the world! We are a supporter of all things “Green” and are constantly on the lookout for ways to have a positive impact on our environment and save the planet from the devastating effects of climate change! You can become a fellow “Greenie” too – for more information on Green Global’s latest initiatives, please visit our website at www.greenglobal.org.
In addition, Liberty Homes is proud to be one of the only new home developers in Las Vegas that uses over 90% USA produced materials in its construction projects! We are also committed to sustainable building practices, much like the 2014 “New American Home”! Liberty Homes’ first development, Liberty Estates, is currently under development and offers a state of the art model home available for viewing!
